In lieu of flowers…
Posted on June 24th, 2009 3 commentsAs many of you know, Beth strongly believes in the mission of the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (www.nwirp.org) and supported the organization by sitting on the Executive Board and heading up the Development Committee. Beth’s interest in immigrant rights stems from her sense of social justice, but also from her connection to the immigrant roots of her own family. Years ago Beth interviewed her grandmother, the child of Italian immigrants, about her experience growing up in a family that had to adjust to a new country and a new set of realities. Her work with the Northwest Immigrant Rights
Project provides one example of how Beth has always lived her values through her relationships, her work, and the time and expertise she shares. In lieu of flowers, Beth requested that you consider making a donation to the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project. A link to the donation page can be found on the NWIRP website, or you can navigate directly to: https://www.networkforgood.org/donation/ExpressDonation.aspx?ORGID2=911393082.
At the time of donation you can dedicate your gift in honor of Beth Peterman. If you prefer to send a check to the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, the mailing address is:

some of the kind words for our Beth
Posted on June 23rd, 2009 1 commentI wanted to share some of the kinds words that have been share about Beth. I have been reading the messages that have been sent in by friends, colleagues and Beth’s many contacts from around the world. there are many common themes that run throughout the passages. As you remember Beth I am sure you will agree with them…
-
Her insights, her wisdom, and her warmth have made her the wonderful person that she is – and the spirit that will continue to live with us.
-
…a special person she is. I always knew I could call her to ‘bounce ideas around’ (in a public health- geeky, but what we thought was fun kind of way) and that I would get a thoughtful and intelligent response from her. I have always appreciated Beth’s free spirit, intelligence and most of all, how FUN she is!!!
-
I think about her beautiful red hair and her smile. I think about both of you, how brave and strong you are-way beyond your years. You are both a blessing to have on this earth.
-
Spending time with you on Thursday, I was so awe struck by your strength and humanity. It takes so much courage to be intellectually present and honest in the ways that you are. You both have so much to teach us all about being real and facing the next phases. Your struggle and perserverance offer a rich testimony to the power of your love for eachother. Your capacity to dig deep and push through countless tough days and uncertain times with humor and grit make you heroic in my eyes.
-
You are an inspiration to the next generation of young girls.
You have shown them that they have many choices on how to live a full and exciting life.-
I want you to know that I’ve always admired you for your generosity and the way you lived your values all the time. You’ve been as kind and generous in your personal life as you were in your choice of and dedication to your profession.
-
Lead me from untruth to truth.
Lead me from darkness into light.
Lead me from the illusion of death to eternal bliss and immortality-
I envision my social life as an array of irregularly orbiting constellations, bumping into certain stars several times in a month, then not for months, so on and so forth. Bumping into Beth (you) would mean spending some time discussing all sorts of things from books we were reading, to work trips, to relationship girl talk stuff, and life in general. Being able to cut right to the chase, get to the heart of the matter, has been a feature of our friendship (helpful when you don’t get a lot of time), but also a major reason for my hugely warm feelings about you! Your sense of humour, intelligence and strong, intense focus have made you a favorite star in my universe. Thank you. …Now as you begin this transition from terrestrial to celestial, I like to think of your spirit being released into all of us and the cosmos themselves. It is with your spirit that I have such a honest, clear connection, and I imagine that connection stays, regardless of our geographic location.
-
Sometimes you meet someone and just feel a great sense of admiration and kinship, and I felt that way with you from the first time we met. You’re a terrific and extremely “whole” person, brimming with both kindness and substance.
-
I love that you share stories about your family with me and always ask about how my family are doing. Your simple way of life and the love for the poor of the world and nature have always been and will always be my inspiration, personally and professionally. In my thoughts you will always be a healthy, strong-minded, kind loving and outdoor lover kind of girl.

I think Beth already knows how much she has inspired us over the years, with her energy and sense of urgency to make the world a better place. … Her insights, her wisdom, and her warmth have made her the wonderful person that she is – and the spirit that will continue to live with us.

Team Bear Cheer Section
Posted on June 19th, 2009 4 commentsHey Team Bear Supporters,
There will be an unofficial Team Bear Cheering Section gathered up at 2nd and Republican (at the red bicycle square on the attached map) in Seattle Center. Beth and crew will try to arrive there between 11:00-12:00 Sunday morning. I am anticipating that the Team Bear cycling crew will roll through the finish sometime after 11:00, although likely closer to 12:00 noon. Feel free to join Beth and many others for the finish of the cyclists and the gather up of the whole Team Bear, runners, walkers and cyclists.
If you have any problem finding the Team Bear cheering section feel free to call 206-303-9072 for location information.
Thanks again to all who have supported Team Bear!
See you Sunday!
Beth, Kevin and Team Bear

Sally, Katherine and Beth toasting the Geneva trip
As some of you know, things didn’t pan out for Beth going to San Francisco for treatment. After tests were complete on some labs it was determined that that particular protocol would have very likely made Beth very sick and not likely had much benefit. We will be meeting with her doctor tomorrow (Monday) to discuss other options here.
Things for Beth have definitely gotten a lot harder, both physically getting around but also communication wise. I will do my best to convey her thoughts to you when I can. In the mean time she asks that everyone send lots of positive energy and thoughts of her as the strong, healthy and vibrant woman we all love.
thanks to everyone. More soon. Kevin

globe traveler
Posted on June 3rd, 2009 10 commentsJust dropped Beth off at Seattle Tacoma International… she is off to Geneva then to France for a couple of days then to Portofino, Italy then headed back home!
Why now? why not! No time like today to do what you want…
Look for posts from the road. Beth, Katherine and Sally may report in from time to time. Meanwhile I (Kevin) miss her dearly and await her return with stories to tell and a rich glow of a wonderful trip.

I start out my days somewhat early, though it takes me a little while to get going. Its not as easy as it used to be. I can be ready to do things. If I can’t I will put you on notice.
I find that I need company in the morning, then my downtime, then company in the late afternoon or evening.
I want you to come. I want you to come with whatever… stories, food, friends, a book, etc. You choose. Surprise me.
